Inside the Inditex HQ: What 23 Fashion Business Students Learned in A Coruña

Last month, 23 BA fashion business management students from the University of Westminster visited Inditex’s headquarters and distribution centre in A Coruña, Spain. Inditex, known for brands like Zara and Massimo Dutti, is recognised for its innovation in fast fashion, logistics, and retail. The trip gave students a close-up view of how technology, data, and design work together to drive one of the world’s leading fashion companies.

During the tour of the logistics hub, students saw how RFID technology tracks parcels and inventory in real time. One student said, “Inditex is a technological pioneer that monitors every minute of its business in real time. They don’t just gather data, they act on it fast. The gap between plan and action is razor thin, and their team operates with a level of cohesion that makes it all possible.” This tracking system helps Inditex quickly identify and restock popular items, keeping its supply chain fast and flexible.

Automated robots were seen efficiently moving stock around the warehouse, maintaining cleanliness and speed. The integration of robotics with human oversight was a highlight for many, illustrating how automation enhances operational efficiency without compromising quality.

Beyond logistics, the students explored Inditex’s photo studio areas, where live model shoots are conducted for e-commerce campaigns. This behind-the-scenes access revealed how marketing and product presentation are meticulously crafted to resonate with consumers.

The group also visited model rooms that replicate store layouts, including those for Zara Home. These spaces demonstrated the strategic use of visual merchandising, how product placement, lighting, and store design create immersive shopping experiences that drive customer engagement and loyalty.

A participant shared, “Seeing how seamlessly each department works together was incredibly inspiring and brought our Fashion Business Management studies to life.”

The visit highlighted the importance of commercial awareness in the fashion industry. Students observed how data-led trading, vertical integration, and supply chain agility are critical to balancing creativity with key performance indicators (KPIs), stock flow, and customer demand.

One student noted, “It was inspiring to observe how a global brand balances speed, structure, and brand identity so effectively.” Another reflected, “Seeing first-hand how buying, trade analysis, garment technology, e-commerce, and logistics operate under one roof was an incredible experience.”

For many, the visit was inspirational. This visit to Inditex’s headquarters offered the students a rare, comprehensive insight into the intersection of technology, logistics, marketing, and creativity that drives a global fashion powerhouse. It was a reminder of how success in today’s fashion industry requires operational excellence, agility, and a deep connection to consumer behaviour. Lessons these future leaders will carry forward into their careers.
